Welcome to Basecamp North Lakes, our farm shop, cafe and activity site set in 155 acres with its own lake!

A gateway to the Northern Lake District, delicious in house baking and championing sustainability, low food miles and innovative rural enterprise. We are also home to world famous Alpacaly Ever After’s award winning Social Enterprise and part of their herd of over 200 alpacas & llamas!

Stay at Basecamp North Lakes!

The Basecamp Lakeside Cabins are eco-led cabins set on our working farm and wetland reserve, overlooking a private lake with open views of Mell Fell and Blencathra Mountains.

There will be seven cabins in total, carefully positioned to sit quietly within the landscape, while being in easy reach of our award-winning farm shop and cafe.

Open to book from July 2026.

We are located alongside the A66 between Penrith and Keswick, within the Lake District National Park World Heritage Site.

Basecamp is where adventures begin.

With easy access to the whole of the Northern Lakes, this is an excellent location to begin your adventures across the district. Central, well connected, and surrounded by walking, water, wildlife and activity opportunities.

Alpacaly Ever After

We’re home to the world famous Alpacaly Ever After, an award winning Social Enterprise that rescue and rehome alpacas and llamas from all across the UK.

Voted Trip Advisor’s Travellers Choice Best of the Best for 2021, Alpacaly Ever After offer activities to come and Meet The Alpacas and take part in feeding time, or in the spring and summer months you can even take them for a walk around the lake surrounded by the stunning views of the Northern Lake District.

Meet The Alpacas

This activity is available Friday to Monday at 10:15am – all ages welcome. Hand feed our lovely herd, take as many photographs as you like and have all your alpaca questions answered surrounded by the stunning views of the Northern Lake District

Walk with Alpacas

This activity is available during the spring and summer months at Basecamp. Private and Mixed Group Walks available lasting 1.5hrs. Trail along the shore of our very own lake, surrounded by the stunning views of the Northern Lake District with some of our delightful alpacas!
