Oak Smoked Cheddar
by Torpehnow Farmhouse Dairy | Located 21 miles from Basecamp North Lakes
No one can be quite sure of when the practice of smoking cheese came into being, but we know that it can taste and smell simply divine and that Torpenhow had to try it for themselves.
Park House Organic Cheddar was the obvious choice and theye soon discovered that the gentle, clean smoke from oak wood chips was the perfect partner for their cheese.
The result is a delicately balanced, creamy, full-flavoured smoked cheese which simply sings with crunchy apples, cool green grapes and is perfect when paired with pears.
Suffice to say, Oak Smoked Cheddar has become a firm favourite amongst our customers and, maturing a little longer than its unsmoked sibling at around eight months, is definitely a cheese that’s worth waiting for.
ABOUT TORPENHOW
The Torpenhow Cheese Company was formed at Park House Farm near the village of Torpenhow on the northern edge of the Lake District, Cumbria, in 2019, with the aim to turn the rich organic milk from our Jersey/Friesian herd into creamy deep-flavoured cheese.
Our family are definite cheese lovers and when we began our organic conversion we thought it was time to share our passion with others, so we converted an old hay barn opposite the farmhouse into a dairy and learned the craft of making cheese and butter.
